HMRC Lose Tribunal Case Over Accumulated Fine
In what could be a landmark ruling, HMRC have been told that they cannot apply accumulated fines if they have not sent a penalty notice promptly and as soon as the breach has taken place.

We Say
It is refreshing to see that a judge has recognised that it is inherently unfair for any organisation to quietly accumulate fines without warning the person or organisation concerned.
We would urge anyone who has been treated in a similar way to contact their tax office without delay and request a refund of any accumulated fine where they were not informed promptly of the fine, quoting the aforementioned ruling.
